Yup.
This is fucked up. I want to pay for music. I value the content. But selling it to some people in some countries and not selling it to others is messed up. And selling it in CD only format is messed up. And posting the entire record on the web for streaming without making the content available for purchase is messed up.
This is precisely why I still love “Alive,” I still love “Ten,” and I still love Pearl Jam. I remember bellowing this song and being distinctly aware — probably for the first time — that, yes, I was a dumb teenager and yes, I didn’t care. It was the most uncool cool thing ever:
To me, the message of “Alive” boiled down to two sounds and three words: “Oh-ahh, uhhh, I’m still alive.” It was a simple yet stirring rallying cry that rang true for a kid stuck living the worst years of his life in the dregs of junior high school. The guy singing this song had obviously endured something nearly as traumatic as the eighth grade, and yet he somehow survived to bellow about how he made it through to the other side more or less intact. You had to be inspired by that.
From the article:
“It’s time to bring the hammer down,” said Representative Dana Rohrabacher, Republican of California. What, and whom, are they hammering? And what will this blunt trauma accomplish?
